Luis Suarez shows Barcelona what they missed… scores brace, create an assist on Athletico Madrid debut

Athletico Madrid new signing, Luis Surez has hit the ground running at his new club scoring a brace on his debut in the 6-1 thrashing of Granada at the Wanda Metropolitano.

The former Barcelona striker, who came in 20 minutes to the end of the game, had touched the ball 16 times and four of them, were shots at goal. Out of the four, two ended up in the net, and the Uruguayan also created an assist in the rout.

Already 3-0 up at the time of his introduction, Suarez added to the goals from Diego Costa, Angel Correa and Joao Felix. Two minutes after coming on, the striker created an assist for Marcos Llorente to score.

He then marked his name on the scoring sheet when he headed in from a Llorente cross for Atleti’s sixth.

Granada pulled one back from a rebound after Jorge Molina’s initial shot hit the post in between Suarez’s brace.

Suarez, who completed his move to the Madrid based outfit on a two-year deal on Friday completed his double in the added time.

He is currently Barcelona’s third-highest goalscorer ever with 198 goals in 283 appearances.

Now on the payroll of Atletico Madrid, Suarez has now become the first debutant of the club to score twice. He is also the first to score and assist on his La Liga debut for the club this century.

Suarez speaks on the importance of change

Speaking after the game, Suarez said it is sometimes to have a change as a player.

“I’m happy for my debut and more than happy to get the three points and start LaLiga well. Every time you make your debut and help the team, in this case with goals, is happy.

“I’ve come to a club that has given me a spectacular welcome, it shows in the atmosphere, you get a good impression from the beginning, and you can see that on the pitch.”

Also speaking, his strike partner, Diego Costa, pointed out that he is a good lad.
