Lucas Moura has confirmed that he will leave Tottenham Hotspur when his contract with the London club expires at the end of June 2023.
The Brazilian international joined Tottenham from Paris Saint Germain in January 2018, but he is now ready to depart from the club.
Tottenham Hotspur confirmed on their official website that Lucas Moura will be among the players that will exit the club this summer.
They said; “We confirm that Moura is to leave the club at the end of the season following the conclusion of his contract”.
Moura was sidelined for the majority of the first half of the season with a tendon injury, and since his return from the World Cup, he has been involved in several tense moments for Spurs, including getting sent off in a 1-1 draw at Everton and allowing Liverpool to score a stoppage-time winner last month.
Lucas Moura made 219 appearances for Tottenham as a whole, during which he saw the back of the net 38 times and registered 27 assists.
Moura said in a video with Sky Sports; “I need to hold the tears”.
“It has been an incredible five years. It was a gift to play for Spurs”.
“It’s sad to say goodbye, especially when you love the place where you are. It’s very difficult”.
“Great memories, great moments I will keep in my heart forever”.
He added; “Wherever I am, my heart will always be here. You are my club”.
During the 2019 season, the former Brazil international’s most memorable game for Spurs was when he scored a hat trick away against Ajax, including a stoppage-time winner, sending his team to the Champions League final.
In the 2021 Carabao Cup final, Tottenham lost to Manchester City by a score of 1-0, and he was included in the starting XI for Spurs.
Moura has been a mainstay for Tottenham for the past four years, but this year he has seen less playing time and has only made 13 Premier League appearances due to injuries. This season, he has also played for Tottenham’s U-21 team.
On Saturday, Tottenham will host Brentford, which may be Moura’s last home game for the club. The season culminates with a trip to Leeds on the road.
Moura scored 19 seconds after entering the game as a substitute in August 2019.
