Louis van Gaal Denies Ajax Return Link

Louis van Gaal has denied proposed reunion with Ajax Amsterdam but has left the door free for national team position.

According to reports, the former Manchester United manager has been linked with a managerial job of the Netherlands club side.

The Eredivisie powerhouse are currently in a dilemma since the beginning of the 2022/2024 Eredivisie campaign.

What has happened to Ajax?

The former Eredivisie champions presently stand in 14th position in the league standings with five points from four outings.

Supporters have become frustrated with the club’s recent poor performance with many reaching the limit of endurance and boiling point during their weekend game against Feyenoord

Thousands of fans reflected their wrath during Ajax’s match with Feyenoord on Sunday, 24th of September.

The home team suffered a 3-0 defeat in the 55th minute of play and their supporters started to throw fireworks onto the pitch

The match official thereafter suspended the match for security reasons but fans proceeded to protest outside the Johan Cruyff Arena.

Recent updates confirmed that the match will be concluded without fans on Wednesday, September 27.

Amidst that, there are speculations that Louis van Gaal might take over as the club’s new manager and bring them out of their recent mess after the Dutch club had parted ways with Sven Mislintat, their director of sports on Sunday evening.

Meanwhile, the former Netherlands national team manager has shut down the report linking him with the Ajax job.

The ex-Manchester United head coach has been out of coaching since his resignation as a coach of the national side after their FIFA World Cup exit in December 2022.

Speaking to reporters on Sunday, 24th of September, former Ajax player Rafael van der Vaart indicated he had lunch with Louis van Gaal and declared the 72-year-old would be open to assisting his former club side get out of their current dilemma.

However, Van der Vaart said; “Louis is, of course, the ideal man for Ajax, his hands are itchy”.

“This club needs clarity. If anyone likes clarity, it’s Louis”.

“I would not be surprised if, within the next few days, they seriously consider reaching out to him. You could give him that because he really wants the best for Ajax”.

Van Gaal, who disclosed he was suffering from prostate cancer in April 2022 before the World Cup in Qatar, has ruled out the possibility of managing Ajax for a second period.

Speaking to reporters Louis van Gaal said; “My health comes first”.

“I don’t like being a coach at a club anymore”.

The coach was further asked if he would manage another national team, he said; “But that depends on many factors”.

The 72-year-old Dutchman’s managerial career has extended to 36 years and he has gained several domestic league titles with the likes of Ajax, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich.

He spent two years at Old Trafford and helped the team attain victory in the FA Cup during the 2016 season and was fired just a few days later.

Louis van Gaal spent three years in-charge of the Netherlands national team and led them to a third-place finish during the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
