Manchester United‘s captain Harry Maguire is still trying to get over the club’s loss to Spanish La Liga side, Sevilla on Sunday night. The England international said the club’s continued failure in the semi-finals of competitions is unacceptable.

On Sunday, August 16, 2020, Sevilla showed Manchester United that they understand how to play the Europa League better than the Premier League team. The Spanish club that knocked out Premier League side Wolves in the quarter-finals, did the same to United in the semi-finals.

Sevilla are the most successful team in the Europa League; they are on the verge of winning a record 6 Europe League title. While Manchester United have won the title just once. Yet, the Premier League side were not expected to lose the semi-final match to Sevilla due to their pedigree in European competitions especially in the UEFA Champions League which they have won thrice.

Unfortunately for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his men, they fell 2-1 to the Spanish club, which implies that they have ended the 2019-2020 season without a trophy. The only achievement the club could boast of in the just concluded season is qualifying for 2020-2021 UEFA Champions League after finishing 3rd on the league table.

Harry Maguire’s led Manchester United experienced a series of disappointments all through the 2019-2020 season. Their woes started when they lost the EFL Cup semi-final to Manchester City 3-2 on aggregate. Next was the FA Cup semi-finals which they lost 3-1 to Chelsea. And now Europa League which was the club’s last chance to win a title.

“Losing is not acceptable. Getting to semi-finals isn’t acceptable,” Harry Maguire told BT Sport after Seville crashed United out of the Europa League on Sunday night.

“[Winning a trophy] will happen soon. We want to win it as soon as possible”, he added. “The best team lost. They punished us for missing chances. We conceded from two crosses which is not good enough.

“We worked our socks off and deserved to win and get through. We fell short in a semi-final for the third time this year. Perhaps that bit of inexperience cost us – we shouldn’t have conceded that second goal.”
