Loris Karius has been relaxing in Milan with girlfriend Diletta Leotta ahead of the League Cup final between Newscast United and Manchester United on Sunday.
On Sunday, 26th February, Newcastle will play Manchester United at Wembley, the mostly forgotten German is expected to be thrust back into action on the biggest platform.
Since his horrific performance for Liverpool in the 2018 Champions League final, Karius, 29, has not appeared in a major game for both Liverpool and Newcastle.
Yet only local youngster Mark Gillespie stands in the way of Toon deputy Karius since Nick Pope is suspended and Martin Dubravka is cup-tied.
The ponytailed ace was photographed enjoying himself in Milan, more than 1,000 miles away from Newcastle, after Newcastle stars were given Sunday and Monday off.
Diletta, on the other hand, was dressed in a black leather jacket with a pink top, blue trousers, and white sneakers. The two climbed into a silver Lexus after eating.
Since last year, Karius and Diletta have been dating.
Last week, the latter wrote her man a heartfelt Valentine’s Day greetings on Instagram.
She posted a number of pictures of the couple together along with a heart emoji.
After being acquired by Eddie Howe’s team last summer, Karius has not appeared for them.
He has been listed on their bench eight times, but he has never taken the field.
He was a fellow back-up When Karl Darlow was loaned to Hull in January, hence, Karius is expected to have moved up the hierarchy.
But as soon as they decided to bring back Dubravka, who had spent the first part of the season on loan at Manchester United, that was quickly undone.
After Pope’s red card against Liverpool, which disqualified him from the final match, Howe said: “Nick is really disappointed, as we are for him. He has been magnificent for us.”
“He does not deserve to miss the game but it is what it is. Nick misjudged it and it hit his arm. I think it was harsh and the referee could have given a yellow card.”
“We have Loris and Mark who have trained really well this season, Both are fit. Behind the scenes, they play every day. I have no doubt they are in condition to play the game.”

Karius, a Biberach native, started his professional career with Stuttgart before transferring to Manchester City in 2009. He spent two years in Manchester City’s youth program before joining Mainz 05 which marked his return to Germany.
He became the Bundesliga team’s first-choice keeper before making the £4.75 million transfer to Liverpool in 2016.
