The red card picked up by Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister in Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth has been rescinded following an appeal.

The Liverpool midfielder was dismissed and subsequently suspended for three games for a foul on Ryan Christie in the 58th minute of proceedings.

Jurgen Klopp expressed his grouse with the decision, stating: “It’s harsh, this shouldn’t have been a red card.

“It’s a mistake and the punishment of playing 40 minutes with 10 men is already punishment enough.”

Thomas Bramall was the center referee in charge of the encounter, and he was criticized for the notable decision.

However, former Premier League referee, Mike Dean, who currently works with Sky Sports, agreed with the decision.

Dean said: “It’s not a wrong decision by the referee. He’s gone in with the studs showing, he’s caught him on the shin. It’s not a wrong decision.”

When did Mac Allister join Liverpool?

Alexis Mac Allister joined Liverpool from Brighton on July 1, 2023, for a fee of €42 million.

Mac Allister has been impressive in his first two competitive games at Liverpool, distributing passes and displaying his undoubtable creative qualities.

He made 112 appearances for Brighton, scoring 20 goals and providing 9 assists across all competitions.

The 2022 FIFA World Cup winner signed a five-year deal with Liverpool, which is valid until June 30, 2028.

Jurgen Klopp’s side appealed the red card handed to Alexis Mac Allister and the English Football Association’s Independent Regulatory Commission has rescinded the decision.

The FA statement read: “An independent regulatory commission has removed Alexis Mac Allister’s three-match suspension following a claim of wrongful dismissal.

“The Liverpool midfielder was sent off for serious foul play during their Premier League game against Bournemouth on Saturday, 19 August.”

Liverpool travel to Saint James’ Park on Sunday, August 27, 2023, in their third game of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

The Reds have also confirmed the decision of the FA, with a statement that reads: “A club appeal against the suspension has now been upheld by an independent regulatory commission, meaning Mac Allister is eligible for selection when the Reds travel to Newcastle United on Sunday.”

Jurgen Klopp’s side currently sit 5th on the Premier League table, having picked up 4 points from 2 matches.

Liverpool are yet to taste defeat in the league this season, with one draw and one win in 2 games played.

They finished 5th in the Premier League last term and that saw them miss out of the UEFA Champions League for the 2023/24 season.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have seemingly settled their issues in midfield, with the arrival of Wataru Endo, who joined the club from Stuttgart.

Following the departure of Fabinho, Naby Keita, James Milner, Jordan Henderson, and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, the Reds needed to make reinforcements.

They have made those reinforcements this summer, with the acquisition of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig, Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton, and Wataru Endo, the recent arrival from Stuttgart.
