Liverpool have been shortlisted among the nominees in the Team of the Year and Comeback of the Year categories in the Laureus World Sports Awards.
Jurgen Klopp’s side who won the Champions League in 2019 – are on a shortlist of six for Team of the Year.The Reds are in the Comeback of the Year category for overturning a 3-0 Champions League semi-final first-leg deficit by beating Barcelona 4-0.
Jurgen Klopp, who was named Premier League Manager of the Month for December, gain the accolades for the fourth time the this season. He is now tied with Manchester City Boss, Pep Guardiola.
Liverpool, recently agreed to a multi-year sponsorship deal with Nike. The deal will go into effect starting of next season with the contract reportedly worth a whopping £80million per year.
Their partnership with the American Sports and footwear giants is set to kick off on June 1, 2020 with Nike to kit out the senior men’s team, women’s side, academy squads, coaching staff and Liverpool FC Foundation.
Liverpool’s deal with Nike will see the club earn more than their long time rivals, Manchester United, who’s current contract with adidas fetches them roughly £75m a year. Prior to this Manchester United’s deal with adidas was a British record.
Winners of each category voted for by the 68 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy will be named in Berlin on 17 February.
