Liverpool have rejected a bid worth £15 million from Southampton for in-form midfielder Fabio Carvalho.
The 21-year-old Portuguese star was a transfer target for Southampton before he decided to join Hull City on loan in the January transfer window.
The Saints are showing interest in the player again after securing promotion to the Premier League in a bid to stay in the league beyond the 2024–25 season.
Other clubs are also looking forward to signing the midfielder on a permanent basis before the closure of the transfer window.
Liverpool have no desire to approve another temporary departure for the youngster, who was a menace to the opponents in the pre-season friendly.
The Reds hierarchy will only consider selling him if offers bigger than £15 million come in place. Carvalho is likely to stay at the club this season.
However, the only limiting factor to his stay at Liverpool is playing time. Carvalho wants to be a key player in the squad, not a part-time player who comes into play when other big-name players are not available.
Liverpool’s new manager, Arne Slot, was hugely impressed with the performance of the Portuguese star and will want him to continue with the squad when the Premier League starts.
Carvalho found the back of the net and looked sharp against Arsenal and Liverpool in the pre-season friendly.
The late return of big-name players like Darwin Nunez, Luiz Diaz, Cody Gakpo, and Diogo Jota has allowed Carvalho to flourish, and he has proceeded to capitalise in those pre-season matches and training.
Carvalho had 29 goals and assists in 56 appearances in the Championship for both Hull City and Fulham.
