West Ham United’s ‘incredible’ run in the Premier League will be tested today, January 31, when they face the reigning Premier League champions, Liverpool, at the London Stadium.
The Premier League fixture which will kick off at 17: 30, is West Ham and Liverpool’s 20th league game of the season. This is seen as one of the biggest tests for coach David Moyes and his boys who have been showing incredible form this season.
The fixture would have been easier for West Ham if Liverpool had not used Tottenham Hotspur to pick up their form. Recall that Liverpool defeated Tottenham on Thursday 3-1. The victory was Liverpool’s first win in 2021.
This means that Liverpool’s forwards have picked up their goalscoring form which could make things very difficult for West Ham in their home stadium later today.
But West Ham’s incredible run in the league might make things more difficult for coach Jurgen Klopp and his Liverpool’s squad. West Ham are currently occupying the 5th spot with 35 points in 20 league games. They are just two points away from 4th placed Liverpool.
It is interesting to note that West Ham just signed Manchester United midfielder Jesse Lingard on loan until the end of the season, a deal which might add to the form of the London club.
So for this season, David Moyes has been able to push the London club to record 10 victories, 5 draws, and 5 defeats. West Ham’s season has been so good that they have only conceded 24 goals in their 20 league games.
Hence, Liverpool’s coach, Jurgen Klopp could not hide his admiration for West Ham’s performance so far this season. The German tactician who is aware that if West Ham manage to beat Liverpool later today, the London club will replace Liverpool on the 4th spot, said Liverpool would give West Ham a “proper fighting performance “.
“West Ham is in an incredible moment and they really have the momentum,” Klopp said. “It will be a tough one for us, they had two days more off as well which makes a massive difference
“But we will go there and give them a proper fighting performance and show them that we want to win the game.
“We respect them a lot and we respect the run that they are on.
“West Ham is doing incredibly well but I don’t know how many games less than us they’ve played so there are moments when games can really hurt you, from a physical point of view.
“That’s all fine, that’s how it is and there should not be a guarantee that we can be top every year – it’s an open competition and that’s the situation.”
We will be without @_fabinhotavares for Sunday's trip to @WestHam.
