Liverpool have confirmed that they will appeal against the red card that was shown to midfielder Curtis Jones in their recent defeat to Tottenham Hotspur.

Jones was sent off in the 26th minute of the match after he was adjudged to have fouled Tottenham midfielder Yves Bissouma. However, Liverpool believe that the decision was harsh and that Jones should not have been sent off.

The club have released a statement saying that they believe the referee made a “clear and obvious error” in sending Jones off. They have also said that they are confident that the appeal will be successful.

“Liverpool Football Club can confirm that it will be appealing the red card shown to Curtis Jones during Saturday’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur,” the statement said.

“The club believes that the referee made a clear and obvious error in sending Jones off, and that he should not have been dismissed. Liverpool is therefore seeking a formal review of the decision.”

It is not yet known when the appeal will be heard, but Liverpool are hoping that it will be successful and that Jones will be able to play in their next match against Brighton on October 8, 2023.

If the appeal is successful, Jones will be available to play for Liverpool in their next match. However, if the appeal is unsuccessful, Jones will miss the match against Brighton and any other matches that he is suspended for.
