Following the confirmation of Moises Caicedo’s transfer to Chelsea several reactions have come to the fore, including fiery reactions.

The Anfield club tried to hijack the Ecuadorian from under the noses of Chelsea, but their efforts were futile.

Despite Brighton initially agreeing Liverpool’s offer for Moises Caicedo, the 21-year-old rejected the Red’s advances.

Moises Caicedo joined Chelsea on Monday, August 14, 2023, from Brighton for a British-record transfer fee of £115 million.

Jurgen Klopp’s side incoherent transfer push has seemingly put them in a tight corner, barely two weeks before the close of the 2023 summer transfer window.

However, John Aldridge, in what many might term to be a boastful remark, lashed out at Moises Caicedo for his decision to join Chelsea over Liverpool.

Aldridge shared his opinion in his column with Liverpool Echo: “As soon as the player made clear he wanted to go to Chelsea over Liverpool, I didn’t want him at all. We are far bigger than Chelsea will ever be.”

The 63-year-old said Todd Boehly’s side have bought their way to success and this move wasn’t painful.

He said: “Missing out on this transfer has not hurt me like when Fernando Torres left us to go there, that was awful and hard to stomach.

Aldridge added: “They have bought their way to where they are.”

The former Oxford United player further expressed that Moises Caicedo’s decision to join Chelsea was due to the “London way of life”.

However, he maintained that in terms of history and pedigree, the Blues can’t lace the boots of Liverpool.

“Chelsea have got that, but they haven’t got the same selling point of Liverpool Football Club: history. We are a massive club in world football and that will always be there.”

John Aldridge also stressed the need to trust manager Jurgen Klopp to acquire players who can deliver for Liverpool.

Aldridge joined Liverpool on January 27, 1987, for €850,000 and he scored 63 goals and provided 17 assists in 104 appearances for the club.

The former Ireland international enjoyed a relatively successful spell at Anfield, winning several trophies, including; 1 League title and 1 FA Cup.

Aldridge also criticized Chelsea’s transfer strategy

During the lengthy rant by John Aldridge, he also criticized Todd Boehly for his transfer policy at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have experienced a massive exodus of players as they continue to overhaul the squad, pruning players surplus to requirements and making necessary signings.

However, the Liverpool legend accused Todd Boehly of mistaking Chelsea for a baseball team.
