Liverpool confirms Georginio Wijnaldum will travel with the Reds to the Club World Cup despite the earlier report about his injury.
Though, he became a doubt for the trip to Qatar due to the hamstring he sustained against the Hornets on Saturday. But the Dutch is now among the squad to play Monterrey after their Premier League win over Watford
The midfielder’s participation in the competition became uncertain after limping off in the 59th-minute of the 2-0 victory at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp earlier confirmed Wijnaldum had suffered a muscle pain but the 29-year-old will still fly out on Sunday. Klopp now named him as part of the 20-man selection.
Liverpool boss will be without defender Dejan Lovren, who has been left behind as he recovers from a muscle issue. Lovren encountered the injury in the Champions League game against Salzburg.
Young midfielder Harvey Elliott and striker Rhian Brewster have also been cut off from the first 23-man squad said earlier this month.
Liverpool begins the match with a semi-final against the Mexican side, Monterrey in Doha on Wednesday.
However, captain and midfielder Jordan Henderson said the European champions have the intention of winning.
Henderson said through the club’s website a while ago ”Well, we want to go there and win. Big games coming up, so we’ve got to recover well. There’s a big game Wednesday and hopefully, we can do a job to get into the final on the weekend.”
Clearly, it will be a tough one if the Reds keep losing one player in each game as it has been happening. But, the visit to Qatar now have the Netherlands International, Wijnaldum back.
