Liverpool completes the signing of Greece defender Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiakos for £11.7million

    Liverpool has completed the transfer of Greek defender Kostas Tsimikas from Olympiacos on a five-year deal for £11.7 million. The 24-year-old Greece defender has three caps for his country; the deal was wrapped up at the champions Melwood training ground.

    Kostas Tsimikas has represented Greece at U-19 and U21 level playing 29 times at both levels, with three caps at the senior level. He moved from Greek club Panserraik for a fee of 35,000 euros and was placed in the youth team of Olympiacos. He made his debut for Olympiacos in 2015, he was loaned out to Danish club Esbjerg for the 2016/17 season but left the club after just 13 games and returned to Olympiacos, on June 2017 he was loaned out to Dutch club Willem ii where he had a successful season playing 32 of the 34 matches of the season with his bicycle kick goal against FC Utrecht voted the goal of the month and also won the award of Rookie of the month award for March 2018. He returned to Olympiacos for the 2018-19 season in November. He played 46 times for the Greek club without any goal but made ten assists. Kostas Tsimikas is a three-time Greek champion with Olympiacos while he also won the 2015 Greek Cup.

    Greek defender wants to rob Andy of the left-back position

    Speed and acceleration are some of the major attributes that stand out for the Greek international but is also a very good crosser of the ball, on the defensive side he is highly regarded has a good tackler of the ball with a good interception rate.

    However, there is still some aspect of his game to improve as he tends to have problems with retaining possession of the ball, which a key aspect of Liverpool’s game plan when playing out from the back.

    The new signing spoke to LiverpoolTV after signing “I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here, it’s an honor to be here and I will give my best, for me, it’s the biggest club in the world.”

    Klopp will hope Kostas Tsimikas can bring competition for the left-back position and maybe give Andy Robertson a run for his money.
