Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has insisted his club Liverpool belongs to the top of the Premier League table after their victory over Brighton in the Premier League.

The Egyptian forward was on target as the Reds came from behind to stun the hard-fighting Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton at Anfield.

Liverpool vs Brighton match recap

It was a thriller as the Reds locked horns with the Seagulls. Liverpool went into the game with the full legs in the Premier League title race.

However, they were a point behind challengers and league leaders Manchester City, who had 23 points from nine games before their clash against Bournemouth at the Vitality Stadium.

In a matchweek replete with shocking results, Liverpool nearly fell prey to Hurzeler’s Brighton.

Fourteen minutes into the game, 25-year-old Turkish full-back and midfielder Ferdi Kadioglu scored a scorcher, taking a touch from Dany Welbeck’s ball and then drilling forward to fire the Seagulls into an unlikely lead with Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimihn Kelleher having no chance.

The goal would see the visitors go into the break with an unlikely lead. Liverpool pulled all strings to turn things around before the first 45 but couldn’t as the resilient visitors showed no signs of caving in.

However, the drama unfolded in full glare in the second half. Liverpool, stepping up their attack, finally got past the visitors’ brick-wall defense to net the equalizer.

Dutch attacking midfielder and former PSV Eindhoven sensation Cody Gakpo scored a screamer of a goal to get Liverpool back into the game.

Two minutes after Cody Gakpo’s strike, Mohamed Salah completed the comeback for the hosts.

Receiving a pass from Jones, he drifted in from the right flank at the end of a counterattack and then curled a brilliant finish into the top-left corner to make it 2-1.

From two goals down, it took the Reds just two minutes of brilliance to turn the game around. Salah’s stunner saw the home side secure crucial three points to stay in the race for the Premier League title.

Fortunately for them, Manchester City suffered a shock 2-1 defeat at Vitality Stadium to slip down from the top of the Premier League table. Hence, Salah’s winner saw the Reds overtake the defending champions to the top spot in the Premier League table.

“Liverpool belongs to the top of the table,” Salah boasts after a dramatic win over Brighton

Mohamed Salah took to his social media handle to relish the victory over Brighton, insisting the club belongs to the top of the Premier League table.

He wrote on Instagram,

“Top of the table is where this club belongs. Nothing less. All teams win matches, but there is only one champion in the end. That is what we want.

Salah also thanked the fans for their immense support during the match, adding he will never forget his big goal-scoring moments at Anfield.

“Thank you for your support last night. No matter what happens, I will never forget what scoring at Anfield looks like.”

Salah’s goal against Brighton was his 7th this season in his 10th match. He also has 5 assists and is the club’s top scorer in the ongoing campaign. The prolific forward will hope to continue on top-level performance for the Reds as they maintain the momentum in the Premier League title race.

The win saw the club go top of the table with 25 points, 2 points clear of Manchester City, who are second. While it is too early to pass a verdict on the Premier League title race, Liverpool, led by Salah, has shown their gut and readiness for the challenge and are tipped as the top favorites for the title.

Meanwhile, they will return to football action in a midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Bayer Leverkusen on Tuesday, November 5, 2024.

Their next Premier League tie is a home fixture against Aston Villa on Saturday, November 9, 2024.
