The young defender joined his former manager Erik ten Hag at Man United in a £55 million deal – having been named the best player of the year at Ajax last season under the management of Erik ten Hag. The Argentina international played with Ajax for three years in which he won the Eredivisie title twice.

Lisandro Martinez has become the third player to join Manchester United as their new manager Erik ten Hag plans to rebuild the club. Before now, Man United has signed Tyrell Malacia from Feyenoord and Christian Eriksen this summer.

Lisandro Martinez will be expected to strengthen United’s defense area as they plan on getting back to winning ways. Man United had a very difficult 2021/22 season which saw them finish outside the UEFA Champions League spot and also had their worst point tally in the history of the English Premier League.

Lisandro Martinez signed a five-year contract with the club with an option to extend it for another year. Although the deal was officially confirmed today, July 27, 2022, Man United supporters were already aware of his signing for weeks now.

The Argentinian was seen in a car with fellow new player Christian Eriksen while they were coming into Carrington on Tuesday, July 26, at 11 am ahead of their first training session with the group.

According to the Telegraph, Martinez is set to earn £120,000 per week as a Manchester United player until June 30, 2027.

During his first interview with the club, Lisandro Martinez said: “It’s an honor to join this great football club. I’ve worked so hard to get to this moment and, now that I’m here, I’m going to push myself even further. I’ve been lucky enough to be part of successful teams in my career.”

He added that he would work hard to adapt to the new life in England and the English Premier League. But he firmly believes that the manager, coaches, and his new teammates would help him.

Lisandro Martinez also used the opportunity to thank Ajax supporters for supporting him and he described his time with them as an unbelievable one.

According to him, this is the best time for him to test a new challenge in another environment.

Note that Lisandro Martinez was not part of Man United’s pre-season squad but Erik ten Hag believes that he would become a fan favorite within a short time.

Erik ten Hag went on to describe the player as a warrior and fighter which will make the fans admire him.

Man United have had one of the best pre-season tours even without their star player Cristiano Ronaldo. During their tour, the Red Devils played four games and won three comfortably including a 4-0 win over arch-rivals Liverpool.
