Messi could miss next week’s UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash with Bayern Munich because of a hamstring injury he sustained.

The Argentine skipper picked up the knock during the club’s 2-1 Coupe de France match loss against fierce rivals Olympique de Marseille.

However, the Argentine maestro managed to play the full 90 minutes.

Meanwhile, the French Champions’ week has been going from bad to worse with an injury crisis afflicting their performances.

The Parisians are already doing without the injured French star, Kylian Mbappe while Brazilian maestro Neymar, Marco Verratti, and Sergio Ramos have only just returned to action after injuries and suspension.

Hence, losing the 35-year-old Argentine FIFA 2022 World Cup hero to a hamstring injury is another blow to the French giants.

The club has announced that Lionel Messi will be out of contention for PSG in Ligue 1 week 23 clash against AS Monaco today, Saturday, February 11.

PSG announced in a statement on Friday, February 10 that Lionel Messi will receive medical treatment for the next 48 hours which makes him a doubt in today’s clash against Monaco.

In the announcement, the Ligue1 giants revealed that the 35-year-old PSG star is expected to return to training on Monday, February 13.

PSG manager, Christophe Galtie said: “Regarding Kylian, he has been out for three weeks — he is getting treatment.”

“For Leo, he felt muscle fatigue against Marseille. He will be back in training on Monday, the day before the game against Munich. He is not doubtful for the Bayern game.”

“After suffering a hamstring injury against Marseille, Leo Messi will undergo treatment for 48 hours,” read PSG’s official pre-Monaco medical update.

“He is scheduled to return to training on Monday.”

In this sense, whether or not Lionel Messi would be available for Tuesday’s Champions League last 16 first leg against Bayern Munich remains a doubt.

And even if he will feature in the Champions League clash, he is likely to come on from the bench as a substitute.

But if he’s to miss the whole game, it could be even worse for the Parisian with Mbappe already out in time for the UCL return.

To be without Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe against the German giants next week would be a difficult battle for Christophe Galtier’s men in the Champions League opening leg against Julian Nagelsmann’s Bayern Munich.

However, Les Parisiens are confident that Messi will be fit for their Valentine’s Day showdown against Bundesliga giants, Bayern as the Argentine is currently receiving treatment.

Next up for PSG after the Monaco clash is Bayern Munich and thereafter is a visit from Lille OSC before another trip to Marseille to finish a fierce clash at Stade Velodrome where Messi took the knock.
