Lionel Messi is no longer feeling tired of being blamed for every problem at FC Barcelona, he now feels hungry to achieve more with the Spanish club.

Recall that before the commencement of the 2020-2021 season, Lionel Messi was fighting very hard to leave Barcelona where he has been since the start of his professional football career. At the end of the 2020 summer transfer window, the 6 times Ballon d’Or winner was not able to accomplish his desire to exit the club because the then president of the club, Josep Maria Bartomeu insisted that Messi could only leave the club if any interested club pays his €700m release clause.

Unfortunately for the 31-year-old Argentine football icon, no club in the world was able to meet up with the release clause amid the coronavirus pandemic that has greatly affected the revenue of clubs across the world.

Hence, Messi was not able to leave and the discussion over extending his contract with the club has not officially started due to the political instability at the club. However, it is not likely that the Argentine football icon would renew his contract with the club which will expire in June 2021.

When the 2020-2021 season started, it initially looked like Lionel Messi was a shadow of his former self as he struggled to maintain his form whenever he has the chance to play. His poor form affected the performance of the club as the club struggled to win games under coach Ronald Koeman.

Things have become so bad for Barcelona this season that the Spanish giants have recorded 4 defeats, three draws, and 6 victories in 13 league games. They are currently sitting on the 5th spot with 21 points, 8 points away from the joint table toppers, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid.

In 13 league games, FC Barcelona have managed to record only 25 goals. In those goals, Messi contributed 6 goals and two assists despite playing in the 13 league games. Most of his goals so far this season came from the spot-kick which is unusual for the talented football star.

In an interview with LaSexta, Messi revealed that his form was hugely affected by the drama that happened before the commencement of the season. He noted that the whole drama from how the 2019-2020 season ended where Barcelona didn’t win any title, for the first time in Messi’s professional career, to sending a transfer request to the club via burofax, affected his performance at the start of the season.

“I had a really bad time of things in the summer. It had been building up”, Lionel Messi said.

“What happened before the summer, what with how the season ended, the burofax and all the rest of it. I ended up carrying that over a bit into the start of this season.

“I’m feeling good at the moment. I’m raring to really fight for everything that lies ahead.

“I’m excited. I know that the club is having a tough time of things, both on and off the field, and everything related to Barcelona is a bit tricky right now, but I’m feeling hungry.”
