EA Sports showed the entire bunch, with a little help from Manchester United icon David Beckham, who said the following in a tweet:

The FIFA Team of the Year was chosen by fan voting after a preliminary list of 80 nominees was narrowed down to eight players from each of the four groups of attackers, midfielders, defenders, and goalkeepers.

Players selected for TOTY will now receive special items in FIFA Ultimate Team, which will feature “some of the highest ratings of the season to celebrate each player’s status as the best in the world,” according to the game’s official website.

Defending duo Marquinhos and Achraf Hakimi, as well as goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, were all selected by the fans, giving PSG over half of the starting XI. Messi and Mbappe were also selected by the fans.

A number of players from Manchester City (Kevin De Bruyne, Joao Cancelo and Ruben Dias) and Chelsea (Jorginho and N’Golo Kante) were also selected in large numbers.

In the Ballon d’Or voting for the 2021 season, Bayern Munich forward Robert Lewandowski came in second to Messi. Lewandowski completed the starting XI.

The players may also have the distinction of being the most recent FIFA Team of the Year award winners.

It was stated in October that EA Sports would be “exploring the notion of rebranding” its soccer video games in order to remove the FIFA logo.

According to Tariq Panja of the New York Times, the parties had “reached a stalemate” in their discussions regarding extending the partnership’s contractual agreement.

With the exception of some sort of last-minute deal, it appears that the popular EA Sports product, which includes the profitable FIFA Ultimate Team mode, will undergo a rebranding.
