Inter Miami attacker Lionel Messi threw a jab at his former club, Paris Saint-Germain, saying he was the only Argentine player that won the World Cup but was not recognized by his football club.

In the latest interview, which has been circulating on social media, the footballer revealed his stint at Paris Saint-Germain did not go according to what he was expecting.

Lionel Messi said, ‘It just happened that way. It wasn’t as expected, but I always say that things happen for a reason’.

‘Although I wasn’t happy there at PSG, I became champion of the world there. Everything happens for a reason; if it had to be that way, then’.

He added, ‘After the World Cup, it was understandable; we were in a situation where Argentina were world champions, and it was our fault that France and Mbappe weren’t champions once again.

‘I was the only player that wasn’t recognized by his club compared to the other 25 Argentinian players.’

Contrary to the Lionel Messi’ statement, a video from January 2023 showed Lionel Messi being celebrated by the Paris Saint-Germain players who applauded him.

The video also showed that he was celebrated with a trophy with a Lionel Messi inscription on it.

Argentina defeated 2018 World Cup Champions France on penalties shootout to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. This happened while he was at Paris Saint-Germain.

After he won the World Cup, his relationship with the French club and the PSG Ultras soured.

The Argentine was put on the transfer list and signed by David Beckham’s Inter Miami.

Even after the World Cup final, he revealed that he had a good relationship with his teammate, Kylian Mbappe.

Aside from the off-field issues, his stats at the Paris Saint-Germain were a good one. During his tenure at the club, Lionel Messi scored 32 goals in 75 appearances.

Apart from that, Lionel Messi won the Ligue 1 title back-to-back. However, the Argentine was unable to secure the most important trophy, which is the Champions League for the Paris Saint-Germain Ultras, before leaving.

Indeed, his time at Paris Saint-Germain was filled with controversies. Recall that the Argentine was suspended for two weeks after going on an unauthorized holiday to Saudi Arabia.

In addition, he was extremely booed by the fans, who do not think Messi is putting more effort into making them win matches.

He is currently enjoying his team at Inter Miami and has changed the fortunes of the club. Since he joined the club, they had lost only one match without his presence.

Inter Miami also won a title upon his arrival at the MLS. He has a contract with the MLS Giants until 2025.
