The 35 year old Argentina captain assisted Mbappe to score the winning goal in their away clash and become the first player to reach the 300 assists landmark.

After the Paris powerhouse exit from the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, 8th of March 2023, Les Parisians saw the dream of Champions League go aflame when they were humiliated by 3-0 on aggregate in the round of 16 by Bayern Munich.

Unlike their previous matchup at the Allianz Arena, PSG was able to assert their dominance in their league game against Brest on Saturday and was rewarded with the game’s first goal in the 37th minute when Carlos Soler tapped in a rebound.

Franck Honorat scored an equalizer just two minutes before halftime to prevent the visitors from taking the lead into the locker room.

No team scored during the second half’s first 44 minutes. However, the reigning champions of Ligue 1 took the lead after Kylian Mbappe finished off a sensational pass from Lionel Messi.

The latter served up a pinpoint ball that allowed the French superstar to race onto it and finish by beating the Brest goalkeeper.

Messi’s career assists total now stands at 353, making him the first player in football history to reach 300 assists in club football.

PSG’s 10-point lead at the top of the Ligue 1 table was also restored by the outcome, with title rivals Marseille and Strasbourg set to face off on Sunday.

Messi may have realized the accomplishment later than expected thanks to his late-career form in the PSG shirt. The vast majority of his goals came while he was still representing FC Barcelona in La Liga.

The Argentine superstar is nearing the end of his legendary career, but that hasn’t stopped him from setting new performance measures on the field of play.

PSG coach Christophe Galtier said after the game that despite their disappointment in the UEFA Champions League, the team’s primary goal is to win the Ligue 1 championship.

PSG’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the round of 16 eliminated them from the top European club competition.

    What’s next for Lionel Messi?

The seven times Ballon d’Or winner will be looking forward to continuing his fine form when he’ll be in action for PSG in the Ligue 1 when they face Rennes on Sunday, 19th of March 2023.
