Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe will be in the Paris Saint Germain team that will face Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League round of 16 clash on Tuesday, 14th of February 2023, as they have reportedly returned from injury earlier than expected.
According to reports that went viral in the past few weeks, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe were both injured ahead of the PSG match against Bayern Munich.
The Tuesday night match will see the French champions face off against the German powerhouse at Parc des Prince for the first leg of their Champions League tie.
According to L’Equipe, Mbappe joined a select group of PSG players for a rehabilitation session as the rest of the squad worked on their conditioning. However, the forward wasn’t particularly engaged, and their contributions were spotty at best.
After the weekend loss to Monaco, which the striker missed because he was taken out of the game early against Montpellier on February 1, PSG manager Christophe Galtier called Mbappe’s hamstring ailment a “sprinter’s hurt.”
After Saturday’s loss to Monaco at the Stade-Louis II, Galtier gave an interview to Prime Video, where he discussed the most recent developments involving Mbappe and Messi.
The club first estimated three weeks for the Frenchman’s absence, but it has since been claimed that the Paris powerhouse are making every effort to have him back for the Bayern match.
According to initial reports, Messi would be sidelined because of a muscular ailment he sustained in the team’s midweek loss to Marseille.
Messi, 35, watched from the bench, while Neymar played for the losing PSG side.
In a swift turn of event, Galtier claimed over the weekend that the Argentine will be back in training on Monday, 13th of February, 2023, leaving the door open for him to be declared fit to play.
Renato Sanches and Nordi Mukiele are also missing for PSG with injuries. While the team was afflicted with a stomach bug before the Monaco game, they nevertheless made room on the bench for Presnel Kimpembe’s return.
Some consider what PSG is going through to be a crisis, and if the French giants don’t win on Tuesday, the concerns will rise louder. PSG isn’t playing convincing football as they head into their clash with Bayern Munich.
If the team can rally together and beat the Bavarian side, it would be a huge relief for the struggling French giants.
In addition, the forward will keep training to get back in shape, and they may be ready to make an impact off the bench for PSG on Tuesday, which would delight the club’s fans.
