Argentina’s legendary striker Lionel Messi has picked the countries that might likely win the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and admitted that Argentina are very hungry to end their 36-year FIFA World Cup title drought.
The 35-year-old PSG star named three countries that he believes are capable of winning the upcoming Qatar World Cup.
According to the Albiceleste captain Lionel Messi, Brazil, France and England will be the biggest obstacles to other teams, including Argentina in the Qatar World Cup tournament.
Speaking to the South American Federation CONMEBOL, Messi said: “Whenever we talk about candidates, we always talk about the same teams.
“If I have to put some above others I think Brazil, France, and England are a little bit above the rest. But the World Cup is so difficult and so complicated that anything can happen.”
Neymar’s Brazilian team is no doubt one of the strongest contenders for the World Cup tournament. They earned a straight berth in football’s premier international competition by finishing top of the South American qualifiers with 14 victories, and three draws without a single defeat.
Moreover, Brazil and Juventus right-back Danilo has also said he believes that his side could not hide the fact that they are “among the favorites to win the 2022 FIFA World Cup.”
The five-time world champions Brazil will play their World Cup opener against Serbia on November 24 before facing other Group G rivals, Switzerland and Cameroon.
The seven-time Ballon d’Or winner Lionel Messi also labeled the England national team as one of his favorites to win the World Cup in Qatar.
The 35-year-old Argentina legendary goal scorer Messi believes Gareth Southgate Three Lions’ team is capable of winning the upcoming World Cup but he’s also eager to get his side to finish top in the competition.
Messi commented on the aura within the Argentina camp as they look for their first World Cup victory since 1986 saying his team would take others down slowly and steadily.
He added: “We are very excited. We have a very nice group that is very eager, but we think about going little by little.”
Argentina has earned an unbeaten record of 35 games across all competitions, last tasting defeat in the Copa America semi-final against Brazil on the 3rd of July, 2019.
Lionel Messi’s Albiceleste is just three games away from beating Italy’s record of 37 matches without a single loss.
The 35-year-old PSG star understands that this is possibly his last chance of winning the golden trophy his industrious team is missing in his era as he is close to retirement.
Hence, Messi’s full attention will be focused on helping Argentina get off to the best credible start when they take on Saudi Arabia in their Qatar World Cup opener.
Argentina will play their World Cup opener against Saudi Arabia’s national team on November 24 before they take on other group C rivals, Mexico and Poland.
