2020 FIFA world player of the year nominee, Robert Lewandowski
seems to have picked up from where he left last season as he becomes the third player to score over 250 Bundesliga goals.

He is now behind Gerd Muller (365) and Klaus Fischer (268) on the all-time goalscorers list.

Lewandowski broke the record with a brace to pass the 250-goal mark in the Bundesliga, helping Bayern Munich come from behind to end Wolfsburg’s unbeaten start.

The 32-year-old Poland striker is hoping to win the FIFA world footballer of the year award for his exploit last season that sees him won the European golden boot apart from UEFA Champions League, German Bundesliga, and the German Cup with the Bavarian club.

The visitors went in front through Maximilian Philipp after just five minutes, but Lewandowski grabbed his 250th Bundesliga goal when he restored parity with a header in first-half added time.

Five minutes after the break, the Polish striker grabbed his 251st after darting clear to beat Wolfsburg goalkeeper Koen Casteels.

This makes it his 18th goal of the season for Bayern in all competitions and 73 goals in 64 competitive club games since the start of the 2019-20 season.

The win keeps Bayern one point behind leaders Bayer Leverkusen.

Will Lewandowski win the FIFA footballer of the year award at the expense of Ronaldo and Messi after the Bundesliga landmark?

Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi have been phenomenal players who have been dominating the scene for the past decade.

They need no introduction as they have remained regular names in the mouth of many football fans. Many always predict the world footballer of the year title to be shared between the two and that has been the case except once that Luka Modric won after leading Croatia to the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup and winning the Champions League for Real Madrid.

Performance-wise, such a thing could occur on December 17 when the winner of the award will be announced.

Lewandowski netted 55 goals in al competition last season and carted away all the golden boots in all of them.

Such performance from the striker, therefore, deserved such reward against the usual household names that didn’t match his achievement last season.

After winning the Tuttosport Golden Player Award, it is expected that the FIFA player of the year award will follow.

It is just unfortunate that the Balloon D’or won’t be held this year. The Polish lad would have take it home as well.
