Bayern Munich winger, Leroy Sane has played down suggestions his partnership with teammate Serge Gnabry can already be compared to the legendary duo formed by Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.

The partnership of Ribery and Robben during their stint with the club led to the nickname “Roberry”. Ribery, a former France international had coined their partnership as SANABRY, with the hope that they will replicate such feat.

Sane joined the Bavarian giant from Manchester City in the summer. The winger hit the ground running with a goal as well as two assists in the 8-0 route of Schalke 04. Two is his assist was made for Gnabry, who hit a maiden Bundesliga hat-trick in the game as well.

Leroy Sane partnership has been described as dynamic

Robben and Ribery combined for 17 Bundesliga titles between them over a silverware-stocked decade at the Allianz Arena until they both left at the same time in 2018/19 season with their names being in the list of Bayern legends.

Sane and Gnabry will be too much to handle

Since the return of Philippe Coutinho to Barcelona over the summer, Sane now wears the number 10 shirt previously won by Robben while Gnabry has switched to the number 7 shirt Ribery graced. This has further spark comparisons.

Aware of the comparism, Sane said he and Gnabry are only at the start of a potentially successful partnership.

‘We’ve just had one game. I can’t talk about comparisons with ‘Robbery. The two of them stamped their mark on the club with a world-class decade. For now, we’ve just had one game in a Bayern shirt that went quite well,” said the 24-year-old Germany international.

It is no surprise that Sane clicked in the team, This could be because they have both played together on a number of occasions for their country.

“I’ve always had contact with Serge. We played together in the Germany youth teams. We now get along just as well as ever both on and off the pitch,” explained Sane.

Whether they will ever be as good or even surpass their predecessors is unknown, but their partnership will make them to be called a name.

Ribery said: “I really like ‘Sanabry'” while ‘Gnané’ has also been put forward. But Sane believes the final word should come from the supporters.

“I can live with both. The fans should decide what they like best,” he added.
