Since the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the dreaded coronavirus a pandemic, and since the pandemic forced football season to be interrupted, footballers have been using the unprecedented free time to do what they normally would not do. One of such footballers who has found himself in the box of devising a new means of spending the free time is Leicester City’s James Maddison.

The England national team attacking midfielder told LCFC TV that the unprecedented free time has forced him to engage in more exercise than he would normally do when there was no pandemic.

“It’s important that we keep fit, so we’ve obviously been getting sent the individual programmes off the sports science and the conditioning team at Leicester”, he said.

“For the first time in my life, I’m actually trying to do more exercise than what I actually need to do because there’s nothing else to do! I’m trying to fill time slots.”

James Maddison also had the opportunity to clear the air on his future with Leicester City as he has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United.

The 23-year-old attacking midfielder said he has gotten used to playing with the Premier League side as his life long dream has always been to play in the Premier League.

He used being a part of a piece of furniture as a metaphor to describe how fond he has become of the club and its supporters.

He said: “If I think back four years ago, I was on loan at Aberdeen from Norwich and now I’m playing every week in the Premier League and that’s all I always wanted to do.

“It’s been a whirlwind two years and I’ve loved every second of it. I feel right at home at Leicester. I feel like part of the furniture already and I love it here.

“I love the lads, I love the fans, [we’ve got] a great manager, so I’m very, very happy.”

Since James Maddison joined Leicester City from Norwich City in 2018, he has established himself as one of the most important players in the Brendan Rodgers‘ squad. The young lad has appeared 64 times, scoring 13 goals for Leicester which is currently occupying the third position on the league table.
