Leeds United on Sunday reacted to the tweet of US President Donald Trump, who criticized “lifelong fan” in his latest attack over the recently held US presidential election.

The Premier League club through its social media handle were quick to seize on the post and responded with a joke of their own.

As Trump continues to make further claims of electoral fraud that saw him lose the election to Democratic candidate, Joe Biden, he has been lashing out at his critics on his favourite platform, Twitter.

Donald Trump has been claiming he won the election

So, what happened on Sunday was not an exception as he took to his favourite medium, Twiter to criticize Fox News for inviting Pete Buttigieg, the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, onto their channel.

Buttigieg has been Trump’s vocal critic. He expectedly reacted on Twitter after seeing him on Fox News.

“This is why @FoxNews daytime and weekend daytime have lost their ratings. They are abysmal having @alfredenewman1 (Mayor Pete of Indiana’s most unsuccessful city, by far!) on more than Republicans. Many great alternatives are forming & exist. Try @OANN & @newsmax, among others!”, the president tweeted.

Trump handed the moniker of Alfred E Neuman to Buttigieg due to his resemblance to the Mad Magazine cover star. However, on this occasion, Trump tagged a Leeds United fan whose name is similar, though not identical to, the Mad mascot.

Due to his large pool of Twitter followers (about 90 million), Trump’s tweet went viral and caught the eye of the Premier League side.

Reacting, the Premier League club used a gif of Trump pointing and smiling, the club’s official Twitter account and posted: “He thought the election was bad, then he went after an #LUFC fan.”

Leeds United‘s response proved extremely popular amongst their own fans but failed to garner as much attention as Trump’s initial tweet. Most of the responses could not be referenced due to the use of some coarse language. But a better response came from Notsocheekytaylor who said: “How does Trump stay relevant in the presidency?…. Mentions Leeds.”

Leeds fan Alfred E. Newman tweets are protected and can only be viewed by his approved followers.

Leeds United attention will be on Premier League and not Trump

As Trump continues the legal battle over the elections that has projected Biden as the winner, Leeds United will shift their focus away from politics and on to a Premier League clash with Arsenal tonight.

They welcome the Gunners to Elland Road with the aim of returning to winning ways after losing their last two games against Leicester (1-4) and Crystal Palace (4-1).
