Lazio striker Ciro Immobile has secured the European golden boot award with 36 goals, the Italian striker did not have to play to secure the title as the closest rival Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo with 31 goals didn’t play in his team’s final match of the season.

Ciro Immobile, 30, started his career with Juventus in 2008-10  but found goals and playing time difficult, he was sent out on loan to Siena, Grosseto, and Pescara before he was sold to Genoa for 2012-2013, and for the 2013/14 season he was at Torino, again in 2014/15 he was in Germany playing for Borussia Dortmund, where he didn’t make much of an impact and had to be shipped out on loan to Sevilla and Torino. He signed for Lazio for the 2016/17 season for a fee of 10 million and has made over 150 appearances with over 100 goals.

This is the first time a Serie A player is picking up the golden boot award since Roma’s Francesco Totti in 2007, an award which has been dominated Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The Lazio striker equalled Higuain’s record of 36 goals in a season, Immobile’s 36 goals was enough to overcome Bayern Munich Robert Lewandoski with 34 goals
