La Liga threatens to report PSG to UEFA as they indulged in “non-compliance with UEFA’s financial fair play” and also the European Union over Mbappe’s transfer U-turn.

The president of Spain’s La Liga, Javier Tebas, has been a vocal critic of big-spending European teams like PSG and Manchester City, as well as the proposed European Super League.

On Saturday night, LaLiga issued the following statement: “This type of deal jeopardizes European football’s economic viability, jeopardizing hundreds of thousands of jobs and jeopardizing athletic integrity – not just in European championships, but also in home leagues.

“It’s scandalous that a club like PSG, which reported losses of more than €220 million last season after losses of more than €700 million in previous seasons (while reporting sponsorship income at a questionable valuation) and a cost of sports staff of around €650 million for the 2021-22 season, can face an agreement with these characteristics, while those clubs that could accept the player’s arrival without seeing their wage bill compromised are left without the ability to sign him.

“To continue protecting the economic environment of European football and its sustainability, LaLiga will submit a protest against PSG before UEFA, administrative and tax authorities in France, and competent bodies of the European Union.”

The behavior of PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi and his club, according to the statement, “endangers European football on the same level as the European Super League.”

PSG lost 224.3 million euros in the 2020-21 season, according to a study released earlier this month by the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), the governing body of the French professional divisions.

This followed a loss of 124.2 million euros in the 2019-20 season, when the Ligue 1 season was cut short because of the Covid-19 epidemic in March 2020.

PSG president Al-Khelaifi, according to Tebas, is “as dangerous as the Super League.”

Last April, Real Madrid and Barcelona were among 12 major European teams who signed up for a breakaway league, but the plan was shelved after an outcry from players, fans, governments, and football’s governing organizations. The controversial ideas were challenged by PSG and Bayern Munich.

Following Tebas’ tweet, La Liga issued a statement calling it “scandalous” that “a club like PSG” could agree to such a deal “while other clubs that could accept the player’s arrival without having their salary bill compromised are left without the ability to recruit him.”

PSG was accused of “not obeying the rules” by La Liga, which repeated several of its president’s charges.
