French forward Kylian Mbappe has reacted to critics of his shushing goal celebration in PSG Ligue 1 win over Brest.
PSG continued in their resurgence from a dismal start to the season with a win against Brest at Stade Francis-Le Blé.
The Ligue 1 champions raced into a two-goal lead courtesy of goals from Zaire-Emery and Kylian Mbappe but were later pegged back by the hosts with a double that even the scores.
However, the Parisians were still able to fight their way back to the lead with a late goal from Kylian Mbappe in the 89th minute.
It was not just a battle of skills, tactics, and goals between the players on the field. PSG players had to scale through hostile Brest fans who taunted them throughout the game.
Reacting to the taunts by Brest fans, Kylian Mbappe celebrated his second and winning goal provocatively, shushing the taunting fans.
His goal celebration has since sparked a row in French media with L’Equipe journalist Latour taking to social media to blast Mbappe.
Latour contended that Kylian Mbappe’s shushing goal celebration is unbecoming of a player of his calibre with a big profile in France national team. As the captain of the national team, Latour thought Mbappe would have moderated his response.
It appears Latour’s comment has not gotten down to Mbappe. The Real Madrid target took to social media as well to undermine Latour and defend his shushing goal celebration.
He wrote;
“Well of course I should have sang with them when they insulted my teammate. Some have really never set foot on a football field regardless of the level….”
Kylian Mbappe has now scored 12 goals in all competitions for PSG but his future at the club remains uncertain as he is yet to renew his contract amidst interest from Real Madrid.
