Kylian Mbappe has declared himself better than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in his head especially whenever he wants to step on the pitch. He however acknowledged that the two football icons are better than him in terms of what they have achieved in the game so far in their careers.

Ronaldo and Messi are two of the most decorated players in terms of individual honors. The two players have won 11 Ballon d’Or, 5 for Ronaldo and 6 for Messi, a feat no footballer has ever attained.

As for Kylian Mbappe, he is seen as the future of football and he has been walking himself into the group of extraordinary footballers. The 22-year-old French striker said what has been keeping him going has been his mentality.

The France international who is currently regarded as a talisman at Paris Saint Germain admitted that he has an ego that has been pushing him forward whenever things get rough for him. He said his ego helps to convince him that he is capable of toppling mountains.

“People don’t understand ego but when you are not well there is no one who will come to your house to tell you that you can do that. It’s just you and your mindset”, Kylian Mbappe told RMC Sport. It’s just you. You have to convince yourself that you are capable of doing great things.

“Every time I go on a pitch I always tell myself that I’m the best and yet I have played on grounds where there was Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. They are better players than me, they have done a billion more things than me.

“But, in my head, I always tell myself that I’m the best because that way you don’t give yourself limits and you try to give your best.

“Of course, sometimes people do not understand because I think there is perhaps also this barrier which is created about this subject, where one does not really explain what the ego is.

“For people, the ego is just not giving a friend a penalty, having a better salary than the player of the rival team. It’s not just that, it’s also in the preparation.

“It’s a personal thing, to surpass yourself, it’s way beyond that superficial thing of saying ‘me, me’. But I think there is quite a bit to be said about it.”

Zinedine Zidane and Kylian Mbappe in action.

Real Madrid coach and French tactician, Zinedine Zidane has taken out time to advise his countryman, Kylian Mbappe to be stronger because he would always be criticized.

The 22-year-old football star who has won 10 domestic trophies including four Ligue 1 titles with Paris Saint Germain, and won the World Cup with France in 2018 has recently said that he does not enjoy how he is being criticized in France.

Kylian Mbappe has scored a whopping 20 league goals and provided 6 assists in 25 games for PSG, yet the fans are expecting more from him.

Zidane said: “The stronger you are, the more criticized you will be. For all the players, even if they have played well, there will always be criticism. Wonderful things will always be said about him when something good is done, but something bad will also be said. Here we are accustomed to that”.

Kylian Mbappe’s contract with the French club will expire in June 2022 but he is yet to agree on a new deal with PSG which has sparked transfer speculation concerning the football star. He is linked to a move to a couple of clubs including Real Madrid.

A recent report claimed that PSG are planning to cut down the price tag placed on his head to €150 million so that he could be more affordable for his suitors. This became necessary because if PSG fail to extend his contract before June next year, he might leave the club for free.
