Kylian Mbappe has taken a dig at Paris Saint-Germain’s manager due to his tactical style of play.
Following the club’s 0-0 draw with Reims, Kylian Mbappe appeared to take a shot at PSG coach Christophe Galtier via his Instagram account.
The French star posted a mysterious Instagram story with the caption “Draw, meeting Tuesday” and added the hash tag “Pivot gang” to show that he was dissatisfied with his deployment as a lone striker. He has since deleted the post.
As Kylian Mbappe has already said that he prefers to play off another forward, the French media have speculated that this is a jab at Galtier.
Due to Lionel Messi’s injury and Christopher Galtier’s decision to rest Neymar, who has been playing nonstop this season, Kylian Mbappe started the game as PSG’s lone attacker.
Kylian Mbappe didn’t appreciate the head coach’s choice to use him as the lone forward up front, though.
Christopher Galtier claimed following the game that Kylian Mbappe was impacted by Leo [Messi] and Neymar’s absence.
“I believed that the connection would be made as the game went on. Considering how much he’s been playing lately, Ney didn’t start the game”, Galtier said.
PSG had a bad performance since they were poised to win until veteran center-back Sergio Ramos was dismissed for a violent challenge in the 41st minute.
Thus, the defending champions were reduced to ten men and struggled to break the tie as the match came to a standstill.
Although Kylian Mbappe missed both Messi and Neymar throughout the encounter, PSG head coach Christopher Galtier believed the French attacker lacked accuracy in his finishing.
“We got better as soon as he turned on. We were outnumbered, which made the second half more interesting”, he noted. “Unfortunately, his finishing lacked a little bit of precision. The goalie stopped a shot from Kylian Mbappe.”
Due to a calf injury, Lionel Messi was unable to play, and Neymar was kept on the bench until the 57th minute. In their place, Carlos Soler and Pablo Sarabia started the game and positioned themselves behind Kylian Mbappe.
Mbappe has already made suggestions that he disagrees with Christopher Galtier’s strategy.
He emphasized during the break that, in contrast to PSG, he feels more at ease playing for France with a No. 9 like Olivier Giroud, who gives Mbappe room to move around freely.
Mbappe recently declared: “I play differently [with France] during the break.” Compared to my club, I get asked different questions here. Here, I have much more freedom.”
It’s unclear if Christopher Galtier assured Mbappe that his position would alter this season as a result of the formation adjustment.
The next game for Mbappe will be Tuesday’s Champions League group-stage matchup against Benfica. If any of these players don’t play well, they will have to find jobs at another club.
