The match has been deemed as the most dramatic and interesting World Cup final between two great teams, who deserved to be in the final.

However, the game was largely an Argentina affair in the first half and few minutes into the second half.

Kylian Mbappe brought the game back to life with what most pundits regarded as the magic moment in the encounter.

The two PSG teammates – Lionel Messi for Argentina and Kylian Mbappe for France went head to head in the encounter, daring each other with a rain of goals.

After dominating play and humbling the French side, Argentina scored twice in the first half to take a 2-0 lead before heading into the break. Lionel Messi opened the scoring for Argentina before Angel Di Maria doubled the lead.

Didier Dechamps’ boys were largely clueless in the first half and struggled in the first few minutes of the second half before Deschamps brought on the sub that changed the game.

He took off Theo Hernandez for Camavinga, who turned the tides against the Argentines within minutes of coming on.

Camavinga held off Lionel Messi in the left-back position, and frustrated the Argentines when they charged forward.

He freed off the pressure on the midfield as he frequently charged forward with the ball to locate Mbappe and Kolo Muani upfront.

Camavinga’s brilliance opened up the link to Mbappe and Muani upfront giving the French team more attacking momentum than before.

In a magic moment of brilliance by Kylian Mbappe, France got two quick goals to tie the game at 2-2 draw.

Mbappe scored from a penalty spot in the 80th minute after Argentina conceded a penalty and then doubled the goal in the 79th seconds later from a powerful volley to tie the game on a 2-2 draw.

The match headed to extra time. Lionel Messi scored again in the 108th minute to restore Argentina’s lead.

Few minutes from Argentina’s third goal, Kylian Mbappe secured an equaliser again for France for a second penalty to bag his hat-trick.

The match ended in a 3-3 after regulation and extra time. Both teams headed into penalty shootouts, where France lost 4-2.

Lionel Messi led Argentina to the World Cup trophy while Kylian Mbappe and other French players were left in tears on the pitch.

French President Emmanuel Macron who flew to Qatar to watch the game stepped inside the field to console the players after the loss.

He approached Kylian Mbappe and made efforts to console him, but Mbappe did not give him attention, seeming to blank him before he finally left.

The PSG forward would have made history, becoming the first French player to win the World Cup back-to-back for France after winning the trophy for the first time in the 2018 World Cup.

Despite holding off the tears, Kylian Mbappe was inconsolable. He had did all to help the team win the trophy, becoming the first player since 1966 to score a hat-trick in the World Cup final.
