When Barcelona offer came in 2018, many football critics and big fans of Liverpool did not want the Brazilian star to exit the club. However, it was glaring that the 27-year-old midfielder had made up his mind to exit the club for a better chance of playing at a bigger competition.

Jurgen Klopp stated that it was a very decision for the Reds to let its talisman exit the club when the club seemed to need him the most. Barcelona paid a whopping sum of about £106 million to sign the Brazilian player.

At that time, forces at Anfield did all they could to ensure that Coutinho’s dream of playing for Barcelona never become a reality. However, all their effort was futile because the Brazilian star has made up his mind already.

Jurgen Klopp while speaking with the Pure Football Podcast, said: “I really respected Phil’s switch from the first second.

“Not that I do that all the time but it felt oh wow that could be difficult.

“Then we had to be hard in the summer because we had no other solution. We lost Adam Lallana [to injury] in that time as well, we would have lost two players.

“He was open to that [staying] and that was really cool. Then you have to be fair in the window and say we can do it, we don’t like it but we can do it.”

It is worthy to know that Coutinho’s move to Barcelona has become the greatest nightmare of his entire football career due to his inability to impress the Camp Nou bosses. Reasonably, he has been transferred to Bayern Munich on a loan deal, the German club also has the opportunity to sign the Brazilian player permanently. However, critics have opined that Bayern Munich would not want to spend much in signing a player like Coutinho since the team is already furnished with lots of exciting players.

Furthermore, Jurgen Klopp utilized the opportunity to clear the rumor that the Merseyside is looking forward to signing Philippe Coutinho again. Klopp stated that: “Phil was our boy for a long time. We respect him a lot and wish him all the best.

“That’s how football should be. That’s the most important thing the club showed in that moment.”

It is, however, worthy to know that Chelsea has been showing interest in signing Philippe Coutinho. There have been speculations that Chelsea has been secretly speaking with the Brazilian player.
