Atletico Madrid tried to keep Kieran Trippier a bit longer but the England international insisted that he wanted to return to his home country.

Due to his desire to return home, Kieran Trippier agreed to join Newcastle United that are currently sitting on the 19th spot on the league table, two points away from safety.

As it stands, Kieran Trippier will become the first Newcastle United signing under the club’s new owners, the Saudi-Arabia-backed consortium.

The Premier League club have sent the youngster on loan to a Belgian Pro League side, Union St-Gilloise which is owned by Brighton chairman Tony Bloom.

The coach of Brighton, Graham Potter said: “His style of play suits us and our style. During my time here, we have done very well in recruiting players for the future and Kacper is a similar signing.

“He will initially head out on loan, as he needs to continue his development, and he is keen to continue playing regularly.

“We will be watching with interest, as he is a very exciting young talent and a player I am really looking forward to working with in the future.”

In the same vein, Wolves have signed Japanese international midfielder Hayao Kawabe from a Swiss Super League side Grasshopper Club Zurich.

The Premier League club offered the 26-year-old Japanese football star a three-and-a-half-year deal. He would however remain on loan at Grasshopper Club Zurich until the end of this season.

Wolves technical director Scott Sellars said: “Naturally, Hayao is a player we’ve watched a lot and he’s done really well this season.

“He’s an attacking midfield player, very energetic, very busy, and has good quality. He’s really shone at Grasshoppers this year, and he’s one of the main reasons they’re doing so well.

“Due to the GBE (Great British) criteria for signing international players, Hayao is a player who is eligible to sign for a British club this month, but may not be in the future, which is why we’ve moved now to confirm his signing.

“Hayao will spend January with Bruno’s group while the Swiss Super League is on a winter break, then he’ll likely return to Grasshoppers to finish the season there, as he has been an important player for them so far this season.”
