Manchester City‘s Kevin De Bruyne has decided to take a different turn from those who have been comparing him to Manchester United‘s attacking midfielder Bruno Fernandes. The Belgian attacking midfielder described Fernandes as a wonderful player.

Since Bruno Fernandes joined Manchester United in the 2019 winter transfer window, he has been seen as the player that will halt the dominance of Kevin De Bruyne as far as the playmaking department of the league is concerned.

In the last few seasons, De Bruyne has been winning the playmaker of the season award even until last season. But this season, Fernandes has switched up his game to the extent that he has won three Premier League player of the month in less than a year in the league.

So far this season, Bruno Fernandes has scored 11 goals and has provided 6 assists in 17 games in all competitions. While Kevin De Bruyne has scored two goals and has provided 10 assists in 13 games in all competitions.

Though they are yet to play the same number of games, the current stats of the 26-year-old Portuguese attacking midfielder has made some football pundits across the world to believe that Fernandes is the real deal ahead of the 29-year-old Belgian star.

But Kevin De Bruyne would not want to be a part of such a debate. Instead, the Belgium international has insisted that Manchester United’s recent successes are the handy work of Fernandes. He also noted that he enjoys watching other footballers and does not like comparing himself with any of them.

“He’s a wonderful player,” Kevin De Bruyne told Sky Sports when he was asked about Fernandes. “He came in and he gave United a different momentum. They were struggling last year, I know they had some games where they won against good teams but the consistency wasn’t there last year for them.

“That’s much improved this year and Fernandes is a big reason for that.

“He’s a guy who makes football look fun. We’re pretty similar in a way but I don’t compare myself to other players. I enjoy other players but I never compare.”

Kevin De Bruyne and Bruno Fernandes will meet each other tonight in the Manchester derby which is a must-win for both Manchester United and Manchester City.

As it stands, Manchester United are in the 7th spot after recording 6 wins, a draw, and three defeats in 10 league games. While Manchester City are occupying the 8th spot after recording 5 wins, three draws, and two defeats in 10 league games.
