Kely Nascimento, the eldest daughter of Brazilian football icon, Pele, took to her Instagram page to share a picture of her father on his sickbed to confirm that the football icon is recovering.
The 54-year-old Brazilian woman also used the Instagram post to thank those who have been sending her greetings since it was revealed that her father was bedridden.
Recall that the 80-year-old Brazilian football icon went to Hospital Albert Einstein in Sao Paulo, Brazil for a medical examination in late August. During the examination, it was discovered that there was a tumor in his right colon.
Hence, the Brazilian football icon had to undergo surgery to remove the tumor. Since then, he has been at the intensive care unit of the hospital.
In a statement the hospital issued earlier in the week, it was confirmed that the football icon was recovering satisfactorily. Also, Pele took to his Instagram page recently to reveal that he was recovering well.
Late on Monday, September 13, Kely Nascimento said Pele would leave the intensive care unit of the hospital in the coming days, adding that the 80-year-old is in a good mood.
“He is doing well post-surgery, he is not in pain and is in a good mood (annoyed that he can only eat jello but will persevere!),” Nascimento wrote on Instagram.
“He will move into a regular room in the next day or two and then go home.
“He is strong and stubborn and with the support and care of the brilliant team at Einstein and all of the love, energy, and light that the world is sending, he will get through this!”
Kely Nascimento is the eldest child of Pele. The football icon had 7 official children. He lost one of them, Sandra who ought to be the eldest in 2006.
The football icon had children from four different women – Anizia Machado, Lenita Kurtz, Rosemeri dos Reis Cholbi, and Assíria Lemos Seixas.
Records reviewed that Pele was involved in three marriages and had several love affairs during his A-days. Among all his children, Kely Nascimento seemed to be more vocal than others.
Before now, Pele has had reasons to visit the hospital due to his health challenges. He had a failed hip replacement surgery in 2012. Since then, he has been confined to a wheelchair.
Due to his current state, he hardly makes public appearances but has become more active on social media, especially his verified Instagram page.
Before he retired from football, Pele helped Brazil to win three FIFA World Cups and he is still Brazil’s all-time highest goalscorer in international football.
