Kasper Schmeichel Makes a Return to Football After OGC Nice Terminated His Contract

Former Leicester City goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel has made an excellent return to football after his contract was terminated by OGC Nice on the deadline day.

He has joined Belgian giant RSC Anderlecht. Schmeichel signed a one-year deal with the club that will see him in action until June 2024.

Due to Anderlecht’s poor finish last season, they have been looking forward to more additions this season. Kasper Schmeichel is a better addition due to his experience and his goalkeeping ability.

Anderlecht are currently in second place in the Belgium league table with four wins from six matches.

The Danish goalkeeper was left as a free agent before the closure of the transfer window in major European leagues on September 1, 2023. 

The goalkeeper lost his place to OGC Nice new signing Marcin Bulka from Paris Saint Germain, who has been performing at the highest level for the club.

Schmeichel joined the Ligue 1 side at the start of the last season after he spent 11 years at Premier League side Leicester City.

The Danish goalkeeper made 479 appearances for the Foxes and was instrumental to the club lifting the Premier League title in 2015/16 season.

While he was at OGC Nice, the goalkeeper earns a weekly wages of £65,959 and a yearly salary of £3,429,864. However in future there are likely to be changes in his wages.

He started his football career in Manchester City in 2006 before leaving the Premier League giant in 2009.

Before leaving, Kasper Schmeichel was loaned to Darlington, Bury, Falkrik, Cardiff and Coventry City. 

In 2009, he joined Notts County on a permanent deal making 43 appearances before leaving to join Leeds United.

Before leaving Notts County, it was revealed that he was the highest paid player then with a sum of £1 million yearly.

He made his debut on August 22, 2009 where Kasper Schmeichel kept a clean sheet.

On May 27, 2010, the goalkeeper signed a two year contract with Leeds United. Schmeichel made his debut on August 7, 2010 against Derby County.

He left Leeds United in 2011 making 37 appearances for the Championship side. 

He joined Leicester City on June 27, 2011 signing three years contract. The Danish goalkeeper had a lot of successes in the newly relegated team winning couple of titles.

On August 3, 2022, Kasper Schmeichel joined OGC Nice. One year later, his contract was terminated and he moved on to joining Anderlecht.
