Karim Benzema has penned a new one-year contract extension with Real Madrid which would see him remain at the Santiago Bernabeu for another campaign.
According to Diario AS, Benzema has put pen-to-paper on a contract renewal with Los Blancos until 2024 following an agreement with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez.
The 35-year-old understands that the next campaign could be his final campaign with the team. Recall that Florentino Perez championed Benzema’s arrival at Real Madrid in 2009.
Benzema has afterwards gone on to become a legend of Real Madrid. The French striker has scored 349 goals and provided 165 assists in 640 games for the Spanish team. These include 26 goals and 6 assists in 35 matches across all competitions this campaign.
The Frenchman would now carry on representing Real Madrid until 2024, and the contractual agreement comes as part of a “Ballon d’Or clause”.
Benzema led the Spanish giants to a La Liga title in addition to Champions League double last term and he was rewarded for his remarkable performance in that season by France Football with the Ballon d’Or award.
The former Olympique Lyonnais forward finished last campaign as the top scorer in La Liga with 27 goals scored and 15 in the UEFA Champions League.
His fresh contract also comes just two days after becoming the fifth footballer to make 150 Champions League appearances.

It was reported that Karim Benzema is encouraging Real Madrid to strengthen their forward line next term and his expected outgoing in 2024 will coincide with the incoming of Brazilian wonderkid from Palmeiras, Endrick.
The 16-year-old has netted 6 goals in 19 appearances for Palmeiras in total and he has won Campeona Brasileiro Serie A with the side alongside the Supercopa do Brazil and the Campeonato Paulista.
Only Cristiano Ronaldo has netted more goals for Real Madrid that Karim Benzema in the history of the club and the attacker is 6th on the all-time appearance list for the capital giants behind Raul, Ilker Casillas, Manolo Sanchis, Sergio Ramos and Santillana.
Benzema has won four La Liga titles with Real Madrid, two Copa del Rey trophies and five Champions League titles during his time with the club.
The Frenchman has also lifted three Spanish Super Cups, four UEFA Super Cups and five Club World Cups with the White Angels.
With Olympique Lyonnais, Benzema won four Ligue 1 titles, one Coupe De France and two Trophee des Champions.
Real Madrid are reportedly eyeing a move to sign Manchester City’s goal poacher Erling Haaland as the perfect replacement for Karim Benzema.
Luka Modric and Toni are also expected to pen fresh short-term deals at Real Madrid but there are doubts hovering around the future of Marco Asensio, Dani Ceballos, Nacho and Mariano Diaz, who also have contracts with the team until the 30th of June, 2023.
