Kalidou Koulibaly, a summer acquisition by Chelsea, has joined the American video-sharing platform Cameo, allowing fans to request a customized video greeting from the former Napoli center-back.
Fans can send Koulibaly a direct message for £13 or order video messages that last an average of 20 seconds each, according to the player’s profile on the website.
Contrary to popular belief, celebrities that appear on the website are not in desperate need of the extra cash, according to a source close to Chelsea’s Koulibaly.
Kalidou Koulibaly, a new star for Chelsea, surprised fans by filming birthday wishes on his camera phone.
On the messaging app Cameo, where retired Premier League stars can earn some cash, fans can hire him to record a clip. But Koulibaly, a defender who joined from Italian side Napoli last summer for a reported £33 million transfer fee, only does it for fun.
Kalidou Koulibaly is not at all in need of the money. He is incredibly wealthy, sources claim. Note that Koulibaly earns around £8.5million per year as a player at Chelsea.
“Just a little fun here. Between his hectic schedule of training and games, he finds time to speak with his supporters directly, and they don’t mind giving him money,” a source added.
“We all know a football player’s career doesn’t last forever, therefore it’s also a terrific method to develop your brand off the field. Win-win situation.”
After beating London rivals Tottenham, Koulibaly sent a message to one supporter saying, “I know you appreciated the goal against Tottenham and I want to have many goals.”
Nine supporters have given excellent assessments of his clips so far, and his videos have been warmly received.
Koulibaly has accrued 12 five-star reviews from customers who have bought a message from the Senegal international since joining Cameo earlier this summer.
One Blues supporter commented on one of Koulibaly’s video messages, “Amazing! Thank you Kalidou for almost perfecting an old-school Chelsea fan’s birthday.”
“What a great video, said one delighted fan. “You are such a kind, gentle person. I appreciate you sending my brother a happy birthday message.”
However, Koulibaly is not the only working professional who offers followers video messages on Cameo. Harry Maguire, the captain of Manchester United, is also available for hire on the website, and a message from the England international costs £225.
Former Three Lions greats David Seaman, Michael Owen, and Paul Ince, as well as former England manager Sven Goran Eriksson, are among the retired pros hawking video greetings on the website.
Koulibaly, a Senegal football player of French descent, relocated to Stamford Bridge after being observed by the best clubs in Europe.
The Naples native was so beloved by the community there that a pizza was named after him. The defender is in contention to play against Southampton on August 30, 2022.
