Former AC Milan and Real Madrid midfielder Ricardo Izecson dos Santos Leite, commonly known as Kaka, has revealed the shocking reason why his ex-wife divorced him.
Kaka got married to his then love of his life Caroline Celico during his days at AC Milan in 2005, they had two kids together – a son and a daughter, before splitting in 2015.
Kaka reveals why his wife divorced him
The former Brazilian midfielder revealed in a podcast that he did all he could to avoid the split.
He said: “In 2015 I was married, and my wife at the time decided she didn’t want to be married anymore.
“She said, ‘I’m not happy and I attribute my unhappiness to marriage’.
“I was living in the United States, and she asked to go back to Brazil.
“Her words were, ‘I want to go back to Brazil, I want to live there and I don’t want to be married anymore’.”
Kaka has moved on ever since, and as a matter of fact, in 2019, he announced his engagement to Brazilian model Carolina Dias, Caroline on the other hand got married to Eduardo Scarpa Juliao in 2021.
The 41-year-old now has four kids – Luca, Isabelle, Esther and Sara. Two from his current wife and the other two from his ex.
Kaka during his playing days, was an elite play-maker, widely regarded as one of the best of his generation, his ability to score from long range and also create a chance out of nothing was second to none.
Kaka’s football career
He had an illustrious career, at both club and international level. He remains one of the eight players to forever have their names etched in history having won the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, and Ballon d’Or.
Kaka played for top European Clubs like AC Milan and Real Madrid, not forgetting his boyhood club Sao Paulo, before hanging his boots at Orlando City in the MLS.
He was part of the AC Milan squad that won the Champions League in 2006/07 season, and also the FIFA Club World Cup in 2008.
In addition, he was also among the 2002 World Cup-winning Brazil side, he played together with the likes of Ronaldinho Gaucho, and also De Lima Ronaldo.
Kaka made a total of 565 club appearances, scoring 185 goals and providing 149 assists.
Internationally, Kaka made 92 appearances, scoring 29 goals and providing 23 assists.
He announced his retirement in 2017 where he revealed that he will still be involved in football, but no longer as an athlete.
“I am preparing to continue in football and to have a different role, but I will no longer be a professional player, an athlete,” he told Globo television then.
Kaka remains a football great, and also a true role model to many young players in the world today.
