The manager of Liverpool football club, Jurgen Klopp led his troubled club to knock out RB Leipzig from the UEFA Champions League round of 16 on Wednesday, March 10, 2021. After the 2-0 victory in the second leg of the round, the German tactician made it known that he was not convinced that Liverpool can win the title yet.

Liverpool who last won the Champions League title at the end of the 2018-2019 season under Jurgen Klopp, has been struggling in the Premier League especially in 2021. They have been losing games consistently especially at Anfield. They are currently in a 6-game losing streak in the league.

But in the Champions League, it has been a different ball game, they play more convincingly and score goals that they hardly score in the Premier League.

Though on a good day, RB Leipzig ought to be an easy bite for Liverpool, but due to Liverpool’s inconsistent form this season, critics of Klopp thought the journey of Liverpool has ended when the German side was paired with the Premier League side.

To the dismay of many, Liverpool defeated RB Leipzig in the first leg of the round on February 16, thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. In the return leg on Wednesday, it was a similar situation as Liverpool defeated Leipzig again 2-0, thanks to goals from the usual suspects, Mane and Salah.

At the end of the two-legged affair, Liverpool successfully proved their dominance over Leipzig by knocking out the German club 4-0 on aggregate.

While Liverpool await who will be their opponent in the quarter-final stage of the competition, the attention of the reigning Premier League champions will now be redirected to the league match against Wolves on March 15.

The draw for the Champions League quarter-final stage will come up on March 19 and Jurgen Klopp is not expecting to meet an easy team in the round as he is not sure of winning the Champions League title “yet”.

“But the only reason you play in this competition is that you want to win it”, Jurgen Klopp said on Wednesday when asked how ridiculous it would be to assume that Liverpool will win this season’s Champions League title.

“But we aren’t silly and so far, this season it does not look like we will win the Champions League in the end”, he added.

“We have to wait for the draw, and it will be an extremely tough game whoever we get.

“We don’t really think that far, we think about from tomorrow and about Wolves [on Monday].

“We had momentum in that (the Champions League) but not in the Premier League yet and we will have games to get that back – and that would help the Champions League definitely.”
