Bayern Munich and Liverpool target Julian Nagelsmann has signed a new contract with Germany national team.

Nagelsmann’s contract with the Die Mannschaft was set to expire after the end of the 2024 Euros. Now, the contract has been extended by two years until the next major international tournament – the 2026 World Cup.

“This is a decision of the heart. It is a great honor to be able to train the national team and work with the best players in the country.

”With successful, passionate performances we have the chance to inspire an entire country,” Nagelsmann said.

Bernd Beuendorf, the president of the German football federation, acknowledged that it was an important move to tie Nagelsmann down due to interest from top European sides.

He said: ‘It is a strong signal for the DFB and the national team that Julian Nagelsmann will remain head coach beyond the home Euros. Because he was on the list of many big clubs across Europe.

‘But the national team is for Julian Nagelsmann more than just a job, it’s a real matter of the heart. Now we have planning security and everyone can focus entirely on a successful performance at the Euros.’

Julian Nagelsmann met the German national team in ruins in 2023 when he was appointed manager. The team had managed just 4 wins in their last 12 matches.

It was a tale of mixed fortunes as the former RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich boss began his reign in the dugout with the European heavyweights.

He kicked off with a bright start, defeating the USA but drew Mexico, and had his gains subsequently eroded with back-to-back defeats to Turkey and Austria.

The March 2024 international window was the major turning point in Julian Nagelsmann’s stint as the Die Mannschaft’s manager.

He secured back-to-back victories against France and the Netherlands to knock off doubts he is equal to the task.

Meanwhile, top European clubs were milling around the tactician. Bayern Munich, Manchester United, including Liverpool were linked to a move for Julian Nagelsmann, who was set to run out his contract after 2024 Euros.

There were reports Bayern Munich were closing in on reappointing him as the Bavarians’ manager. Now, they have been handed a huge blow as the 36-year-old’s new contract with Germany.
