Bayern Munich defensive midfielder, Joshua Kimmich has regretted that he did not get vaccinated on time before he contracted the dreaded coronavirus in November.

Unfortunately for the 26-year-old German football star, the coronavirus infection affected his lungs which made his stay out of football longer than expected.

Before he contracted the virus, Joshua Kimmich has played 11 Bundesliga games for Bayern Munich in which he scored three goals and provided 4 assists.

Due to the infection, he has missed four Bundesliga games including the shocking 2-1 defeat at the hands of Augsburg on November 19. He was also not present when Bayern Munich beat Dynamo Kyiv and FC Barcelona in UEFA Champions League group stage games.

Even though Joshua Kimmich has been absent due to the infection, Bayern Munich have continued to do well in all the competitions they are involved in. They are currently topping the Bundesliga table with 37 points in 15 games and made it to the Champions League round of 16 as their group leaders.

The Bayern utility player ought to have returned to action before now but had to stay out of action because his lungs suffered a “slight infiltration” due to the infection.

In an interview with German channel ZDF, Kimmich confessed that he failed to be vaccinated because of the fears he had concerning the intake of the vaccine.

“It was difficult for me to deal with my fears and concerns, that’s why I was undecided for so long”, he said.

Hence, the German international has decided to take the vaccine when he is medically permitted to do so.

In an Instagram post he shared during the weekend, Kimmich could be seen carrying out a light individual training. In the caption, the German footballer confirmed that he would return to action in January.

The football star wrote: “I’m fine and I got through the really long quarantine period yesterday. I’m dying to get started again and to be with the team.

“However, I have to be patient a little longer, as I am not yet allowed to put full weight on the lungs due to slight infiltration. I’ll watch the remaining three games this year from the couch and we’ll attack together again from January.”

Joshua Kimmich joined Bayern Munich on July 2, 2015, from Stuttgart for a transfer fee worth €8.50 million. His contract with the German Bundesliga giants will expire on June 30, 2025.
