Bayern Munich defender, Joshua Kimmich-having narrated how his football career started-has attributed strong quality and mentality as lifelines that have been sustained by the German giants in recent years.
The Germany international said the club’s strengths come from the strong mentality and quality of the squad, which is very german. He said the winning mentality has been inherent in the club.
“Our biggest strengths are our mentality and our quality. Both are important and we have both. We have a great mentality in our group. We always want to win, even when we don’t play very well.” Kimmich who will turn 26 this month, said
“You can always see that we want to win those types of games. Everyone knows we have a lot of quality in our squad. It doesn’t matter who plays, there is always a world-class player in the first 11 and that is a big strength.” He added
Kimmich reflected on how he began to play football in the garden of his parents in Bosingen- narrated how he broke the windows of her parents through ‘stray of shots’. His parents then, instructed him to play with his friends across the street- which led him to the inception of his career.
Kimmich poured out his happiness on the last season’s achievements even though the ravaging coronavirus shook the world. The defender was part of Flick’s army that clinched treble- UEFA Champions League, Bundesliga, and the German Cup titles- last year. But he tagged winning the UCL- the best moment.
“Of course it was an outstanding year. There were a lot of positive moments, but for me the best moment was winning the Champions League, defeating Paris, and knowing that we are the champions now”. The 25-year-old player said in an exclusive chat with fifa.com.
A few days ago, Bayern chief, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has charged the German side to have a ‘clear goal’ of bringing back the title-FIFA World Club Cup- to the Allianz Arena. He said they can win a historic sextuplet this season. Joshua Kimmich has wholly keyed into that plan
“Every player wants to win this trophy because the qualification for this trophy is the hardest qualification! You have to win the Champions League to get a chance to win this trophy. We want to win our sixth title in one year. For me and also for my team-mates it would be outstanding, so we’re totally motivated to win this big title.” He said
The German said it is interesting to play with teams from different continents because it is very rare to play with those types of teams in Europe. Bayern will be facing Al Ahly of Egypt in the next round of the World Club Cup
“It is special because you play against other countries from far away. It is really interesting because it’s not often that you get to play against such teams.”
The German defender was bought from VfB Stuttgart by Bayern in 2015. Since arrival, Joshua Kimmich has been consistent for the Bavarians, playing different roles for the German side. Especially in the 2020/21 season that he bagged 4 goals with over twelve assists in all competitions for Hansi Flick’s men.
Bayern Munich are league leaders- seven points clear of RB Leipzig, as they set to face Hertha today before facing Al Ahly on Monday which is Kimmich’s birthday.
