Jose Mourinho revealed that he had no intention in coming back to Chelsea for a third spell after he was approached for the managerial position.
Chelsea have struggled this season and currently have Frank Lampard as interim manager after sacking both Thomas Tuchel and his successor, Graham Potter.
Mauricio Pochettino, former PSG and Tottenham coach is currently the favorite for the Chelsea vacancy after positive talks with Blues co-owner Todd Boehly.
Reports however had it that the Blues also reached out to one of their most decorated former managers, Jose Mourinho, for discussions over their vacant managerial position.
Corriere dello Sport, via Football Italia confirmed that Mourinho was spoken to by a Chelsea director to see if the Portuguese will return to the Bridge.
Jose Mourinho enjoyed a successful period as Chelsea head coach under Roman Abramovich – who was the previous owner.
The Portuguese was more interested in seeking talks with AS Roma chief Dan Friedkin in a bid to clarify his long-term future.
Mourinho has rebuilt his reputation in Italy with Roma after a disappointing spell at Tottenham, and they are currently sixth in Serie A but just four points behind second-placed Lazio.
The former Chelsea manager also guided AS Roma to the Europa League semi-finals after winning the Europa Conference League last year.
Jose Mourinho is till quite popular at Stamford Bridge after he helped Chelsea win three Premier Leagues, three League Cups and an FA Cup titles across two successful spells at the club.
He has also enjoyed a successful spells at Real Madrid and Inter Milan before returning to England to boss Manchester United and Tottenham in recent years.
Mourinho’s current contract with AS Roma runs until the summer of 2024 but there have been interest from Real Madrid and a move to Al-Nassr – Cristiano Ronaldo’s team.
Chelsea on the other hand are keen on pushing to land Pochettino as their new head coach after holding constructive talks with the highly-rated Argentine.
Pochettino has been unemployed since he was dismissed from PSG last summer.
Frank Lampard will continue until the end of the season even if Pochettino and Chelsea reach an agreement.
After losing all five of their games since Lampard’s return, The Blues are currently languishing in the bottom half of the Premier League table.
