Supporters of AC Milan booed the coach of Roma Jose Mourinho during the Italian Serie A game between his team and AC Milan at San Siro on Thursday, January 6.

In the Italian Serie A game which ended in a 3-1 win over Jose Mourinho’s Roma, the supporters of AC Milan mocked the Portuguese coach, thanking him for not accepting to coach AC Milan.

After the Italian Serie A game which saw two of Jose Mourinho’s players – Rick Karsdorp, and Gianluca Mancini red-carded, Mourinho, told reporters that he was booed by AC Milan supporters because he refused to coach the club.

Recall that Jose Mourinho was in charge of Inter Milan (a local rival of AC Milan) between 2008 and 2010. During that period, the Portuguese coach helped the Milan-based team to win five titles including one UEFA Champions League, two Serie A titles, one Coppa Italia, and one Supercoppa Italiana.

After that, Jose Mourinho went on to coach Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur before he returned to Italy to coach Roma in 2021.

During the post-match press conference after his defeat at the hands of AC Milan on Thursday, January 6, 2022, Mourinho confirmed that AC Milan approached him to coach the club three years ago.

He said: “I was offered the job three years ago. I thought about it for three days, but I am so happy to have taken that decision.”

Based on Mourinho’s comment, AC Milan tried to appoint the Portuguese coach after Manchester United sacked him in 2018.

As it stands, AC Milan fans are happy that Mourinho refused to join the club. Currently, AC Milan are one point away from first placed Inter Milan while Mourinho’s Roma are occupying the 7th spot with 32 points in 20 games.

After the 3-1 defeat at the hands of AC Milan, Mourinho blamed the officiating of the game for the loss. He however admitted that his team did not play well enough.

“We were still in the game, even when 2-0 down, but when Rick Karsdorp was sent off, it was over,” Mourinho said according to DAZN.

“Having said that, the performance was of such a low level. If you look at the two opening goals, we gave the ball away so cheaply. The quality was really lacking today. I didn’t like the referee or my team today.

“The quality was also lacking for the referee and the VAR. I saw Tammy move his arm, but it was not a voluntary gesture to stop the ball. If you give this as a penalty, then also give a penalty for the fouls on Zaniolo and Ibanez. Give all three or don’t give any of them.”

Even though AC Milan supporters booed Jose Mourinho during the La Liga game between AC Milan and Roma, the coach had to intervene when Roma supporters started to racially abuse Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

Ibrahimovic who played for Mourinho at Manchester United started the Serie A game from the bench. He replaced Olivier Giroud in the 77th minute.

Immediately the Swedish striker stepped to the pitch, Roma fans at the San Siro began to aim racist chant at the veteran striker. The Portuguese coach had to appeal to the club’s supporters to stop and they did.

Also, during the dramatic game, coach Mourinho had to step to the pitch to prevent his striker, Tammy Abraham from being sent off.

After the coach’s decision, the referee decided not to show the English striker a red card and also did not send off the Portuguese coach despite invading the pitch.
