Jose Mourinho has insisted that he will at some point in his coaching career, coach in the Saudi Pro League.
Mourinho made this known in an expository interview, where he made his thoughts laid bare on several topical areas in football.
Jose Mourinho, who currently manages AS Roma in the Italian Serie A, has in the past been courted by Saudi Arabia.
Reports earlier in 2023 did indicate that he was offered a staggering deal to manage the Saudi Arabian national team, but the Portuguese turned it down.
Mourinho is fully focused on the growth of AS Roma, and as such, he isn’t keen on leaving the club just yet.
Jose Mourinho won the UEFA Europa Conference League with the Giallorossi in his first season in charge of the team, leading the club to their first European title.
He was so close to leading the club to another title and European trophy last season, but his side lost 4-1 to Sevilla on penalties, after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.
Roma currently sit 7th on the Serie A table, with 18 points from 12 league matches, drawing 5 games, winning 3, and losing 4.
In their Europa League group standings, they occupy the 2nd spot on the log, with 9 points from 4 league games, equal on points with Slavia Prague, who sit at the summit of the group.
Jose Mourinho keen on coaching in the Saudi Pro League
Speaking on managing in Saudi Arabia in the foreseeable future, Jose Mourinho as aforementioned expressed that he thinks he will coach in the Saudi Pro League.
He said: “I think one day I will join the Saudi Pro League. I think I will go and coach there, yes”.
“But that day won’t be tomorrow or after tomorrow…”
Saudi Arabia are currently undergoing a football revolution with several star players plying their trade in the country.
Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the greatest footballer ever, plays for Al Nassr in the Saudi Pro League, with other star names like Karim Benzema, N’Golo Kante, and Neymar to name a few also playing in the country.
Several massive coaches in Europe, have also been hit with the Saudi bug, with Roberto Mancini even coaching the national team of Saudi Arabia.
Mourinho on Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid and his links to the Brazil national team job
Meanwhile, Jose Mourinho also aired his thoughts on rejoining Real Madrid to replace Carlo Ancelotti and he gave his honest verdict on that.
Mourinho appeared to be dodging the opportunity of rejoining Real Madrid, as he expressed that Ancelotti “is the perfect coach for Real Madrid.”
Jose Mourinho said: “Re-joining Real Madrid to replace Ancelotti? Florentino is super smart. He already has a super manager, why thinking of another?”.
“I’m Madridista and I hope Ancelotti will stay there. He’s the perfect coach for Real Madrid.”
Additionally, the 60-year-old was also questioned on Carlo Ancelotti and his links to the Brazil national team job, and he was also upfront with his assertions.
Mourinho said: “I think only a crazy person like me can leave Real without the club wanting to. I left even though Real and José Sánchez wanted me to stay”.
“I’m sure that Carlo will decide to stay as soon as Florentino Pérez calls him”.
Jose Mourinho is one of the most successful managers in football history, and is also widely regarded to be among the greatest managers of all time.
He has won several trophies so far in his stellar coaching career, including; 8 League titles, 2 UEFA Champions League, and 1 UEFA Europa League.
Mourinho has also won many individual honors, including being a 1-time FIFA World Coach of the Year.
