Jorge Vilda is under pressure to step down as the manager of the Spanish female national team after 15 players of the team sent emails to the Spanish FA threatening to quit playing for the country if the manager is still in charge of the team.

The players alleged that the presence of coach Jorge Vilda on the team is affecting their psychological and emotional health.

The Spanish Football Federation RFEF rejected the request and threatened to ban those players, saying that they should accept their mistakes and seek forgiveness.

“The RFEF can confirm that, throughout today, we received 15 emails from 15 players of the women’s senior football team… in which they state that the current situation affects ‘significantly’ their emotional state and their health and that, ‘as long as it is not reversed’, they resign from the Spanish national team”, a statement from Spanish FA confirmed.

“The RFEF is not going to allow the players to question the continuity of the national coach and his coaching staff, since making those decisions does not fall within their powers.”

The threat issued by those players via email can attract a five-year suspension from the Federation.

The RFEF insisted they want only committed players on the team and if there is room to feed in young and talented players, they will do so. In addition, the Federation is also looking forward to lowering their age group players to bolster the squad.

Many people viewed the situation as blackmail. They believe football players have no right whatsoever to refuse to participate in National Call Up because they don’t agree with the manager’s coaching style.
