How Jordan Pickford found himself here
Before now, most people believe that Jordan Pickford is a hero of English football after helping the Three Lions of England to win a knockout match in the 2018 FIFA World Cup via penalties. He saved one of the spot-kicks that gave England their first penalties triumph at the World Cup.
He was also outstanding for England during the last European Championship (Euro 2020) when he helped England to get to the final of the tournament which they lost to Italy via penalties.
Despite being so loved as England’s national team goalkeeper, Jordan Pickford is always taunted by rivals of Everton over the seize of his arms and his height.
Critics of Pickford believe that the goalkeeper who is 1.85 meters tall is not tall enough to be a goalkeeper. They also believe that Pickford’s arms are smaller than usual, hence, they often compare him to Tyrannosaurus Rex.
On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, Everton visited St. James’ Park for a Premier League game which ended 3-1 in favor of Newcastle United.
During the game, a fan of Newcastle United wore an inflatable Tyrannosaurus Rex to taunt Pickford.
In the same vein, another Newcastle United fan was seen on the stand holding a T-Rex toy in such a way that the goalkeeper could see it.
To make matters worse for the goalkeeper, fans of Newcastle United allegedly sang: “He couldn’t touch the crossbar, he’s only got little arms”, in an attempt to make him uncomfortable during the Premier League game.
Despite the unpalatable encounter at St. James Park on February 8, coach Frank Lampard decided to start him in the league game against Leeds United. The taunting did not make any negative impact on him as he went on to record a clean sheet in the game that ended 3-0 in favor of Everton.
