Jordan Henderson will not be available for Liverpool football club for at least four Premier League games, thanks to an injury he sustained during a league match between Liverpool and Everton on February 20, 2021.

In the Merseyside derby which ended 0-2 in favor of Everton, Jordan Henderson went down twice which forced coach Jurgen Klopp to substitute the 30-year-old midfielder who has been given the center-back role at the club due to an injury crisis.

After the Merseyside derby, it was confirmed that the England international sustained a groin injury. On Friday, February 26, Liverpool confirmed that the club’s captain has successfully undergone surgery to treat the injury.

Hence, Jordan Henderson has to be allowed to heal and gain match fitness before he can return to the pitch. This process will last until April which means that he would not be available for the England football team during the FIFA international break in March.

Also, this means that Henderson will not be available when Liverpool plays Premier League games against Sheffield United, Chelsea, Fulham, and Wolves. It also means that he will miss the second leg of the Champions League round of 16 match against RB Leipzig on March 10.

A Liverpool statement read: “Following a further assessment with the club’s medical team, Henderson has successfully had a corrective procedure carried out on the adductor injury. He will begin a rehabilitation program immediately.

“No specific timescale is being placed upon his return; however, the 30-year-old is ruled out initially until after the March international break.

“Henderson’s recovery will be closely monitored by the club’s medical department and his progression during his rehab work will determine when he can resume full training.”

Before his injury, Jordan Henderson has played 21 Premier League games in which he scored a goal and provided an assist. He has played a total of 28 games in all competitions so far this season.

He has joined the long list of Liverpool players who have been out of football due to different degrees of injuries. Some of them are Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip, and Fabinho.

    Leicester City coach Brendan Rodgers.

Leicester City were knocked out of the Europa League by a lowly rated Czech Republic side Slavia Prague on Thursday, February 25. The 0-2 defeat in the hands of Slavia Prague ended the hope that Leicester City will build on their form in the league to go farther in the European competition.

Unfortunately for them, their journey ended in the round of 32 which means that they only have the Premier League title to fight for this season.

After Leicester’s 0-2 defeat on Thursday, the coach of Leicester City, Brendan Rodgers urged the critics of the club to blame him for falling to Slavia Prague 0-2 on aggregate.

“It’s my responsibility, I pick the team with the players we have available and clearly it didn’t work as well as I would have liked,” he said.

“We have changed the team often enough through the season because we’ve carried injuries all year. The players are coming back from injury, we had to find a way to freshen up the team.

“Overall, they were better than us and deserved to go through. We have to go away and learn from that.

“We started pretty well, we had to be patient, but we never really created too many opportunities. I’m disappointed with the goals, in particular, the second one – we have to defend with greater urgency.

“It’s disappointing but I said to the players afterward we have to learn from it. We can accept it a lot easier as we weren’t good enough on the night and over the two legs.

“We’ll get back in, move on and we’ve enjoyed the European experience and we want to fight this year and be better next year.”
